There is a report that Amaraaaay Stoudemire has been offered a 5 year $100 million deal with the New York Knicks. Yup, that's just a report and I really don't see too much news here. Amare didn't like the contract the Suns offered him, he denied it and is looking elsewhere. Exactly what I thought would happen. I mean, can't we assume that all the big names have been technically "offered" a contract? Well, either way, here's what I think:
STAT does not deserve a max contract. Especially after his poor performance during the conference finals. I mean, he decided to show up....when he was in PHX! I know it's difficult to play on your home court, so it was really nice to see STAT step his game up there. Want some more? Well STAT sucks at rebounding, sorry, I meant, he doesn't try when it comes to rebounding. In the playoffs as a whole, Amare had 10+ rebounds only 3 out of the 16 games PHX played! WOOOOOOOOW! A 6'10" beast of a power forward should be averaging a little more than 7 REBOUNDS PER GAME. Ok, so that's whatever, at least he's a scorer and he does demand attention. He also has a nice little mid-range jumper. Oh wait, he can't play defense either! Check this STAT out: Rookie year - 1.1 blocks pg, 2007-08 (Peak Year for Bpg)- 2.1; Last Season - 1.1 bpg.... And don't get me started on Pau Gasol absolutely manhandling him in Game 1. People like to point out that Gasol didn't do that much during the rest of the series. Ya, because the Suns decided to switch to a zone. Why? Because the Lakers went to Gasol, deliberately, 4 times in a row in the fourth quarter of that game, and every time, Gasol scored on STAT. It was actually really embarassing. I mean, what do you do if you're Amare in that situation. "Oh no, please don't give it to Gasol, pleeeeaaassseee! Let Fisher have it! He'll shoot an ill-advised jum-DAMN!"
This man is not a max contract player. He is good and needs a coach that will MAKE him work. If playing with Steve Nash does not inspire you, then you're never going to be anything in the NBA.
